The business about apartheid in Israel is no more than a diversion.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10089650.post-57386477446541547682012-08-29T04:00:27.350-07:002012-08-29T04:00:27.350-07:00It's clear that Bart Barlow is as much of raci...It's clear that Bart Barlow is as much of racist as Beeman. The reaction to Ahmadinejad's blatant antisemitism is certainly not overblown. The comments that Ahmadinejad made would be criminal offenses if they were made in a number of European countries.
The expulsion of Jews from Arab countries is part of the broader picture. The larger context is how Israel become a country, what happened since then, and why things are as they are today. Ahmadinejad gave himself away when he talked about the 400 years of Zionism.
The Wilipedia article was reasonably balanced. I suspect that Barlow condemns it reflexively.
He should read it again.
Barlow is a narrow minded fool.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10089650.post-21155000418995444412012-08-28T09:55:36.738-07:002012-08-28T09:55:36.738-07:00It is clear the three commenters above are uninter...It is clear the three commenters above are uninterested in addressing the actual content of this article, which - as Professor Beeman points out in his introductory note - is about the overblown reaction to Ahmadinejad's rhetoric and the contextualization of a phrase which has been deemed outrageous by the media.

The hasbara of saying Palestinians are "better off" under brutal Israeli occupation is shameful and dishonest. Anyone using that embarrassing talking point reveals their agenda immediately.

The "expulsion" of Jews from Arab countries has literally nothing to do with the subject under scrutiny. To accuse the author of "overlooking" that issue is bizarre when it has absolutely no relevance. Shirazi also doesn't discuss the origins of pistachio ice cream but probably shouldn't be called out for it.

The third commenter apparently didn't read the entire article; it s/he had, a link to a Wikipedia page cited as "balanced" and calling the above article "single-sided" betrays a distinct lack of reading comprehension.

The article demonstrates how the Israel-as-Apartheid-State perspective is widespread and commonly used and therefore using the same condemnatory language used against Apartheid with regard to Israel is neither alarming nor outrageous. That's the point. If you missed that, you should try reading it again before posting silly comments.BartBarlownoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10089650.post-287285448254706082012-08-22T07:04:28.374-07:002012-08-22T07:04:28.374-07:00For a balanced as opposed to a single-sided discus...For a balanced as opposed to a single-sided discussion of this topic go to:
http://tinyurl.com/7bkeqz
Shirazi has some nerve to overlook the discrimination in Iran and in Syria to focus on Israel.
The big news now is Syria and I can understand why Sharazi would want to divert attention to Israel, the usual scapegoat.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10089650.post-62614148056805770822012-08-21T13:02:23.901-07:002012-08-21T13:02:23.901-07:00As for your introductory statement, Ahmadinejad is...As for your introductory statement, Ahmadinejad is the elected President in the very undemocratic country of Iran.
It stands to reason his views are identical with a majority of Iranians.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10089650.post-83587410457221678682012-08-21T12:41:43.586-07:002012-08-21T12:41:43.586-07:00Abba Eban said it: "The Palestinian's hav...Abba Eban said it: "The Palestinian's have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity."
